Michael Murphy group at Swinburne

This group usually focuses on the astrophysical and fundamental physics questions that can be addressed using high-resolution spectra of quasars and stars. For example, we are seeking to understand the many processes of how gas interacts with distant galaxies via the absorption lines it imprints in the spectra of distant galaxies. These absorption lines can also be used to study the laws of nature in these galaxies, and compare them with the laws established in laboratories here on Earth. Similar principles and uses can be applied to the spectra of stars.
