Images from a pilot search for diffuse, non-thermal radio emission in galaxy clusters with ASKAP

Re-processed images and region files used for detecting and measuring diffuse, non-thermal radio emission in galaxy clusters with ASKAP used in the paper “Evolutionary Map of the Universe (EMU): a pilot search for diffuse, non-thermal radio emission in galaxy clusters with the Australian SKA Pathfinder”.

The galaxy clusters targeted are described in Section 2 of the paper, the ASKAP observations and re-imaging strategies are described in Section 3, and the purpose of the region files for source measurements is described in Section 4.2 and 4.3. The original images and visibility datasets are available on the CSIRO ASKAP Science Data Archive.

The files provided for each cluster, where relevant, are:

PSZ2*_collage.pdf: 9-panel figure showing the cluster and the various images available, used for initial detection. An example is shown in Figure 7 of the paper.

PSZ2*_mask.reg: DS9 region file used to mask intervening sources when modelling a radio halo.

PSZ2*_polygon.reg: DS9 region file for integrated flux density measurements.

PSZ2*_sizes.reg: DS9 region file showing the largest extents of the sources.

PSZ2*_r0.0_linmos.fits: Robust 0.0 ASKAP image.

PSZ2*_r0.25_linmos.fits: Robust +0.25 ASKAP image.

PSZ2*_uniform_linmos.fits: Uniform ASKAP image.

PSZ2*_*arcsec_linmos.fits: Robust +0.25 with additional Gaussian taper applied during imaging.

PSZ2*_sub_linmos.fits: Images with compact source subtracted.

PSZ2*_smoothed.fits: XMM-Newton (_xmm) or Chandra (_chandra) image smoothed to 20 arcsec.
