BPASS: Binary Population and Spectral Synthesis, Version 2.1

The Binary Population and Spectral Synthesis (BPASS) suite of binary stellar evolution models and synthetic stellar populations provides a framework for the physically motivated analysis of both the integrated light from distant stellar populations and the detailed properties of those nearby. We present a new  version 2.1 data release of these models, that incorporates binary mass transfer and its effect on stellar evolution pathways, as well as the construction of simple stellar populations. The available results here include:


  1. Binary stellar models with photometric colours,
  2. New OB stars atmosphere models,
  3. Massive star type number counts,
  4. Core collapse supernova rates,
  5. Yields: energy output from winds and supernovae and ejected yields of X , Y and Z,
  6. Stellar population mass remaining,
  7. HR diagram (isochronal contours),
  8. Spectral Synthesis Outputs,
  9. Spectral Energy Distributions,
  10. Ionizing flux predictions,
  11. Broadband colours,
  12. Colour-Magnitude Diagram (CMD) making code.


We highly recommend users read the manual. The above results can be found in the following files:


(1) are found in the files NEWBINMODS.zAAA.tar and NEWSINMODS.tar, where XXX is the metallicity mass fraction with Z=0.AAA.

(2) are found in WMBasic_OB_models.tar.gz.

(3 to 11) are found in BPASSv2.1_imfBBB_CCC.tar, where BBB is the upper IMF slope and CCC is the maximum stellar mass in solar masses.

(12) can be found in plotall.tar as well as other example codes to plot the data files.
